Small thoughts: Rants and Raves

Jim Harbaugh

Rants -49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh for creating a quarterback controversy when there wasn’t one. How hard is it to answer who is your starting quarterback coach, or why are you starting this player over this player who has a bigger body of work? Yet the well Alex Smith is a starting quarterback and Collin Kaepernick  What tips the scale, is Colin, we believe, has the hot hand and we’ll go with Colin,” Harbaugh said. “And we’ll go with Alex. They’re both our guys.” So who is your starting quarterback, coach Harbarugh?

Rants- Big East for let yet another school leave their league and turning this into a revolving door. Instead of being called the Big East maybe it should be called the Big Left Over for those schools who are still left in the league.

Rants- David SternDavid Stern for threaten sanctions against the Spurs for resting their players against the Miami Heat. Truth be told Stern was more worried about his ratings Spurs vs. Heat than anything else. Stern comes off looking like a bully trying to tell Popovich how to run his team. Players take games off with in the game themselves and Stern doesn’t hit them with sanctions. The Spurs are one of the best run teams in the NBA. Give them credit for knowing what they are doing and knowing their own players.

Raves – Greg PopovichGreg Popovichfor having the guts to sit his core 4 against the Heat in a game that didn’t mean anything this early in the season. His reasoning was: ”Everybody has to make decisions about their schedule, about players playing and back-to-backs and trips and that sort of thing,” Popovich said before the game. ”In our case, this month we’ve had 11 away games, after tonight. We’ve had an eight-day trip and a 10-day trip, and we’re ending it with four (games) in five nights here. I think it’d be unwise to be playing our guys in that kind of a situation, given their history.” The 4 time NBA champion Spurs know a thing or two about their players and winning so let’s see how this plays out over the course of the season.

RavesNotre Dame for their return to prominence they will be playing for the National Title. They usually play one of the toughest schedules in college and this year was no exception finishing 12-0 with victories over Stanford, Michigan and USC. Only one question why does it take so long to play the title game in College football? It loses a lot of momentum by the time the game gets here.

Raves – PennState for their play on the field. It would have been so easy for this school to pack it in and mail the season in. Instead they showed heart and toughness on the way to 8-4 season. They will not be playing in any bowl games and many of their more talented players left to go elsewhere yet those that stayed rewarded their faithful fans by playing well and playing with pride.
