Win and you get a contract extension and everyone loves you. Lose once you better have a reason. Lose again in most cases you won’t get a third time. The NFL is win now or else… So welcome to the NFL (Not For Long) no long range rebuilding plans allowed. Win make the owners happy Lose and well get the moving van we leaving …
There are 32 teams, there were 32 Headcoaches along with 32 General Managers. Now there are 25 headcoaches and 27 General Managers. 7 Headcoaches and 5 General Managers were fired on Monday which served notice that the NFL lived up to its intials (NOT FOR LONG) meaning if you don’t win and win big you’re out and someone else will be replacing you. Among the unemployed headcoaches Lovie Smith (Bears), Norv Turner(Chargers),Andy Reid(Eagles), Pat Shumur (Browns), Ken Whisenhunt(Cardnials), Romeo Crennel(Chiefs) Chan Gailey (Bills) Now in all fairness some of the coaches that were fired were with their teams a long time (Andy Reid 14 years and Lovie Smith 9 years) Many of the coaches and General Managers that were dismissed were rumored to be on the firing line like the San Diego Chargers coach and general manager Norv Turner and AJ Smith. Andy Reid had been rumored since last offseason and it was a foregone conclusion that he was gone. I must admit I was somewhat surprised that Mike Tannebaum was fired simply because it took guts for Woody Johnson to do that and keep Rex Ryan as head coach. That means the incoming GM will have a coach waiting there for him not of his own choosing. So a word to Rex Ryan no 8-8, 6-10 finishes or you will be gone too. Of the coaches fired I thin the saddest is Romeo Crennel. With everything that happen in the past month he might be more relieved to be let go so he can clear his head. There is a possibility that maybe another coach or two will be fired before the offseason begins in full. There are some who are calling for Jason Garrett’s job for Dallas not making the playoffs again .In the meantime you will hear see and read of rumors of fired coaches Like Andy Reid and Lovie Smith end up in other places, others will be offered coordinator positions and college coaches will be nipping at the bit to get a job in the NFL. The Owners will be busy putting their list together of people they want to hire. Many have already had a list already some many be updated but rest assured they will fill those vacancies. Some will work others will not, that is the way it is in the league where the intials are NFL… Not for Long.
