In recents days things were looking bleak for the Lakers, in fact the shouts were to fire the coach (Dantoni) rumors were circulating that the Lakers were looking to trade Dwight Howard. While all of the above could still happen for the past three games something is happening in LA LA land. They are winning. Yes it is modest but it is winning. They were 17-25 at the close of last week, 3 games later 20-25. Yes they are still out of the playoff picture at least 4 games from the last playoff spot in the west, but at least they appear to be finally hitting a stride in the right direction. Kobe Bryant is making like the second coming of Magic Johnson and is looking for his teammates often as witnessed by his 11 assists in the Lakers 111-106 win against the Hornets.
”It’s working pretty well,” said Bryant, whose 39 assists in the Lakers’ last three games are the biggest three-game total of his 17-season career. ”It’s very easy for me to look over the defense and know where they’re coming from, just kind of line my guys up in the right way and just pick them apart.”
”We’re doing a good job of not being selfish, and of doing whatever we can to help our team win,” Howard said. ”Things are clicking for us. Our offense is a lot smoother, and on defense we’re really holding each other accountable.”
Next the Lakers begin a seven game road trip, the first game of the road trip begins tonight in Phoenix against the Suns. The road has been less than kind to the Lakers who are 5-15 on the road this season, so they are looking to turn that around and continue their good play of late. They still have a long way to go to turning their season around but at least they are now heading in the right direction.
