If everyone is entitled to their 15 minutes of fame they should at least be prepared to make it count for something worth while. The Manti Te’o fake girlfriend isn’t worth all the attention for the 15 minutes of fame that it receives. It is sad the more details are revealed the more sadder it becomes.Now comes the story that Te’o friend Ronaiah Tuiasosopo made this whole thing up and did the voice of the fake girlfriend. Turns out he was in love with Te’o. In the words of Dr. Phil, he asked him if this means he is gay I asked him straight up, ‘Was this a romantic relationship with you?,’ and he says yes. I said, ‘Are you then therefore gay?’ And he said, ‘When you put it that way, yes.’ And then he caught himself and said, ‘I am confused,'” Confused? really? The big question is why go through all of this and play this hoax up like this and string someone along? What could this Tuiasosopo stand to gain by doing something like this? Would it not just been simplier to just go to Te’o face to face and say that he was attracted to him if this story is to be believed? The more I read it and hear it it becomes weirder and creepier. I’m still not sure that Te’o himself didn’t play a part in this, after a while shouldn’t the light come on that something isn’t right? The more they talk the more questions keep coming up that we might not know answers to. One thing for sure I hope Te’o has a thick skin about the ribbing he might receive once he comes to the NFL. If this is what a friend does to him I can’t begin to wonder what a stranger would say or do. This hoax also revealed what people have said about the internet and on line romance, you never know who you are dealing with and how this guy Tuiasosopo used another woman’s picture without her knowledge or consent to make this hoax that much more to Te’o. The question still remains why did Tuiasosopo do this? What did he seek to gain from all of this? Was this a joke that got out of hand? Again if this young man needed attention there are other ways to go about it. Not become or make others an unwilling dupe in this sick attention grabber for 15 minutes of fame.
