In a story that first broke a few days ago on Yahoo sports, Jay Glazer is being credited for reporting that Alex Smith is being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. Yet According to yahoo sports “the San Francisco 49ers have wrapped up a trade that will put quarterback Alex Smith in a new city. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported via Twitter that the 49ers have sewed up negotiations with a willing trade partner. The interested team is not yet known, though Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com says that from everything he’s heard around the scouting combine this week, the Kansas City Chiefs have a deal for Smith that is “all but done.”
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported on the NFL Network that the Chiefs have the most interest, and that new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is very intrigued with Smith’s mobility, but that a deal isn’t yet consummated. Rapoport also said on NFL.com that the 49ers will continue to lay the groundwork for a trade that will give Smith to a new NFL team.
I blogged about this in the entry (“Where will Alex Smith go?”) and the credit was give to the above people for breaking the story, so where does Jay Glazer fit in this? I am not sure. But Kansas City is getting a solid quarterback and solid team leader, that put the team ahead of himself and didn’t whine when he was benched and lost his job to injury (which was a usual no- no in sports) Just like there is a coaching revolving door when a coach leaves or get fired, there is going to be more movement especially with quarterbacks, Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow have yet to be resolved …will there be interest in Tebow? The Jets are stuck with Sanchez or are they? How will Brady signing an extension affect the Ravens and Joe Flacco talks? Is Michael Vick going to finish the year with the Eagles? Who is going to be the Quarterback in Arizona? Now that Russell Wilson is the quarterback in Seattle what will happen to Matt Flynn? Alex Smith is the first domino of many to fall in this offseason at the QB position.
I think the Alex Smith move will pay off for the Chiefs who only won two games last year?
As for Tebow, unless he changes positions and becomes a tight end or RB, i don’t think he finds a home..
49ers interested in Revis if you the Jets do you make that deal ?
I don’t know actually- the Jets need so many holes filled, and if they can’t sign the other saftety, then they’re in trouble in the secondary if Revis goes, but I will tell you this…the Niners are a smart organization. Remember when they picked up Dejon Sanders for one year? They won the Super Bowl with him that year…Just saying
