Kentucky Wildcats bounced from NIT: The mighty have fallen

Wildcats battle Robert MosesRobert Moses beats Kentucky

It’s bad enough that the NCAA champions of a year ago were not invited to the NCAA’s big Tournment to defend their title. But to be sent packing to the NIT and then get bounced in the first round to Robert Moses is the stuff that leaves the Kentucky Wildcat supporters wondering where the program is heading. The fact that the Louisville Cardinals the Wildcats hated rivals were playing in the NCAA Tournment on Kentucky’s home court was added insult to injury. This had all the making of a potential blow out right? Wrong. Robert Moses played even with the Wildcats and wasn’t in awe of them and played as if they belonged on the same court as Kentucky. On the outside looking in that is the purpose of the tournment whether it is NCAA or NIT any one anytime, any place anywhere can be anyone. That is what happened to Kentucky. The fact that their best player Archie Goodwin wasn’t involved on the last play of the game when he did so much to that point said more about the defense Robert Moses played more than anything else.
After the game according to one report Kentucky Wildcat coach John Calipari had the look of a mixture of disgusted and relieved. There are some who are more than likely happy to see Calipari lose like this. I don’t the man so I can’t say for sure if he is the kind of person you want to cheer for but you can imagine this is a humbling experience for him. Last year he was the coach of the NCAA champions this year he didn’t get to go to the NCAA’s and then get knocked out in the first round of the NIT’s. “The program got hijacked,” he said. “I can’t believe the stuff I had to put up with.”

“This was humbling,” he said moments later about the season.

“We will be a hard-nosed team next year,” he added. “I can’t sit through this again.”

For Robert Moses this was their NCAA National Title game as they left it all on the floor tonight.

“I guess you could say we emptied our tanks out there,” Karvel Anderson said.
