Aaron Hernandez is in police custody after being arrested at his home on Wednesday morning. No charges have been announced yet.
“We are not releasing the charge against Hernandez until it is presented to the court,” the Massachusetts State Police announced via Twitter. “Again, he will be arraigned in Attleboro Court today.”
Less than two hours after the arrest, the New England Patriots released Hernandez.
“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss,” the Patriots said in a statement. “Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
The former Patriots tight end has been part of an investigation into the death of Odin Lloyd, an associate of Hernandez’s who was found dead near the player’s house. Police believe Lloyd, 27, was killed by a gunshot to the head sometime between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on June 17.
Multiple reports said Hernandez, 23, was taken from his North Attleborough home in what appeared to be handcuffs at about 8:45 a.m. Eastern time.
Nine police officials showed up at Hernandez’s door on Wednesday morning in five police cars, according to NFL Network. Hernandez answered the door and the police entered. Hernandez had a white shirt pulled over his arms, which were secured behind his back, and he was led into a police cruiser. The arrest was captured on video by the cameras that have been camped out by Hernandez’s house for a week.
Monday, Hernandez’s attorney, Michael Fee, scolded the media for subjecting his client to “a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation, and false reports in the media. These include the repeated publication of a supposedly confirmed report that an arrest warrant had been issued for Aaron, a report that was exposed as untrue.”
Lloyd, who played semi-pro football, was reportedly dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee. Lloyd’s body was found on June 17 in an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez’s home. Police searched Hernandez’s home several times last week. Hernandez was reportedly uncooperative with police in the initial stages of the investigation. He reportedly had a cleaning service at his house the morning that Lloyd’s body was found, turned over to police a destroyed cell phone and police discovered that the security system at his home had also been destroyed.
Last August, the Patriots reportedly signed Hernandez to a 5-year contract extension that included a $12.5 million bonus.

FYI, Hernandez is the 29th player in the NFL to be arrested since the Super Bowl. Just plain sad man…

It says that Hollywood has glorified violence, there is a lack of gun control, and there is an even stronger need for the death penalty to be implemented in EVERY state.
