SmallThoughts: Old School Tuesday …Bill Willoughby from High school to the NBA

Bill Willoughby

Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James made the jump from High School to the NBA, no big deal right? However back in the 70’s there were 3 players who made the leap from High School to the NBA and it was a big deal Darryl Dawkins, Moses Malone and…Bill Willoughby started his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks and in a 9 year career he played for the Hawks, Braves (now the los Angeles Clippers) Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and the New Jersey Nets. Willoughby was listed at 6’8 and had a 47 inch vertical leap…and he put it to good use. He is the only one to block Kareem’s sky hook at it’s apex in a playoff game against the Lakers in 1981. There is little footage to Willoughby’s career sadly. SmallThoughts: Old School Tuesday salutes one of the first to make the leap from high school to the NBA…Bill Willoughby!

I enjoy talking sports, and on here I get to write about it as well. I have my thoughts hence Small thoughts, we will not always agree, but respectfully speak about what we feel.
