SmallThoughts: Old School Tuesday …Connie Hawkins…the Hawk

Connie Hawkins

Dr. J aka Julius Erving was my all time favorite player on the hardwood, but even I admit that before Dr. J there was Connie Hawkins. Who was Connie Hawkins you ask? Oh my simply the greatest player the NBA didn’t and doesn’t want you to know about. Oh Yes he was that good. He had Lebron’s height, Michael Jordan and Dr.J leaping ability could shoot like Jerry West and pass and hanlde like Oscar Robertson. That was who Connie Hawkins was. His hands was so big that the basketball look like a grapefruit in his hands. He had long arms so rebounding wasn’t an issue and even though he was 6’9 he at times was asked to play center against the likes of Kareem. And he more than held his own. The Hawk played in the NBA, ABA and did a 4 year run with the Harlem Globetrotters, he was an accomplished ball player at ever level. One of the greatest players to ever come out of Brooklyn, New york Hawkins was inducted into the Basketball hall of Fame in 1992. To see more of Connie Hawkins accomplishements click on the link

I enjoy talking sports, and on here I get to write about it as well. I have my thoughts hence Small thoughts, we will not always agree, but respectfully speak about what we feel. I invite your comments and feedback as well. You can also follow me on twitter @bklynboy59 and facebook Jerry bklynboy Small
