Rants: Bill Simmons …if you are going to rant about anything, how about being up set more at Ray rice for giving his wife a beat down than worrying about whether or not Roger Goodell lied about knowing if he saw a second tape or not. The whole reason this came up in the first place was because of what Ray Rice did to begin with, so aim your anger at the right party.
Footnote: Simmons has since been suspended by ESPN for 3 weeks.
Rants: Roger Goodell… You call a press conference on a Friday which means you were trying to bury this as a new story and then you say basically nothing. If you want to make this right just say the NFL from this point on will have a zero tolerance policy for Domestic violence against women and children period.
Rants:Keith Olbermann… for his critique of Derek Jeter he decried Jeter as overrated, came up with a way to say he is not one of the top-10 Yankees of all-time, and called him “nowhere near an immortal. I am not a Yankee fan but I can’t see anyone calling Jeter overrated. Very few play for one team anymore and and even fewer play one position their entire career especially at shortstop, Ripken was moved to 3rd base, and so was ARod. Jeter isn’t just a nice player who is been around awhile …he is a winner he is clutch in big moments. Yet as one person put it about Jeter not being a top 10 Yankee of all time… “That’s utter nonsense. The man has more hits (3,461) than any shortstop in history, and that only begins to describe how good he was.The Yankees have had an inordinate number of all-time great players, so it is possible for Jeter to be an obvious Hall of Famer and still not one of the 10 best Yankees of all-time. They are like the Lakers in that way. We would all agree that Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant are among the best basketball players in history, right? Well, if those are your top five Lakers, where do you put Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?”
If Olbermann did this for shock value he wasted his time, and for him to say he is a Yankee fan is a disgrace.
Raves:Los Angeles Dodgers …for winning the National League West with a 9-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. By the way the winning pitcher was…Clayton Kershaw whose record now is 21-3.
Raves:Eric Bledsoe for getting a big contract from the Phoenix Suns (5years 70 million) but the question is who is starting? The Suns have 3 point guards for two spots… Former Kings guard Isiah Thomas, Goran Dragic and Bledsoe. That is a another issue for another day, but for now if the Suns went with a 3 guard offense it could give opposing teams more than they could handle.
Raves:San Francisco Giants…for clinching the National League 2nd wildcard. Not much is often said about the Giants but they quietly make the postseason and then make noise once they are in.The Giants secured a wild card when Milwaukee lost at Cincinnati on Thursday afternoon. Congratu;ations to the Giants.
