Smallthoughts: Rants and Raves

Rants: Rex Ryan and the Jets…after the dress down they got by the Chargers there should be nothing they have to say. No Excuses. Please, Please, Please, let’s get this straight if Geno Smith really blew off a meeting and still started on Sunday …the Rex Ryan has really lost control of his team and deserves at the end of the season to lose his job as well. The Jets under Rex Ryan have often talked a big game but seldom play a big game. This game against the Broncos is their last chance to play a big game.

Rants:Michigan Wolverines…this has not been a good week for Michigan, their starting QB got blasted last week and was sent out there to play even though it was clear he wasn’t in his right frame of mind to do so, which led to all kinds of student protest on the Michigan’s President’s doorstep and now they lost to Rutgers 24-22. Michigan just isn’t Michigan right now …are they?

Rants:Clayton Kershaw…Sorry but he gets goats horns for his performance against the Cardinals in the Divisional series. He is the best pitcher in the league as long as he doesn’t pitch against the St Louis Cardinals…they have his number and dial it often. Now they face the Giants in the NLCS and the Dodgers go home.

Raves: Rutgers University …The Scarlet Knights are 5-1 3-1 at home and in 3rd place in the Big Ten East and they beat Michigan at home 24-22. The Scarlet Knights really step up in class as they play Ohio State on the road, but the win over Michigan will serve them well against the Buckeyes.

Raves:Arian Foster for saying what everyone already knows, that Thursday Night Football games are terrible and too one sided and too dangerous on a short work week. In a interview with the Houston Chronicle Foster said the following:I don’t know a player that likes it,” Foster told the Houston Chronicle. “I really don’t know a fan that likes it, either. I think it’s just the league’s way of trying to generate more revenue.”

“They emphasize concussions when they start getting hit with lawsuits and they care about the players’ safety but Thursday Night Football is putting every player on the football field in danger,” Foster said, according to the Chronicle.

For the record the Thursday night games are going to continue at least for this season, the NFL needs to find a week to make theses games competitive, then next season find a week to get them off the schedule for the players saftey.

Raves:Giants, Cardinals Orioles and Royals for making it to the championship series Baseball’s version of the final four. Special kudos to the Kansas City Royals. There was a time when the Royals were post season regulars especially against the New york Yankees (1976,77,78,80) but after nearly 30 year absence they are not only in the post season they are in the ALCS.Nice job KC.
