2014 has not been kind to the New York teams across the board. Pick a sport any sport …Football?
The Football teams are a combined 5-15. Hockey? The Hockey teams are nothing to write home about especially the Rangers. The Basketball teams are awful although the Knicks have an excuse …New coach, new system and Phil Jackson knew they would be not that good this season to start…but next season no excuses. The Nets are 4-6 the Knicks are 3-9 The Jets are 2-8 the Giants 3-7 the Mets haven’t finished above 500 since 2008 and the Yankees haven’t made the postseason for two straight years. Yes 2014 has not been the year of the New York Teams. The Giants may or may not fire Tom Coughlin, the Jets should fire Rex Ryan and General manager John Idzik, The Knicks need to hurry up and learn the triangle before the season gets late early, the Nets need Brook Lopez to stay healthy and they need to win a soon. The Islanders yes the Islanders are 12-6 and playing well, the Rangers are 7-7. The Mets at least are starting to look like they will contend in 2015 if they can land a good shortstop with pop in his bat. They Yankees have yet to be heard from but you know the Yankees will retool their roster. But when was that last time the Yankees missed the post season for two straight seasons?
In all fairness, as a New York fan some of theses teams you knew were not going to be good this year. The Jets and the Mets come to mind. The Giants started out good and the expectation was that they would make a good showing then the roof to their season fell in and they haven’t been the same since. But what’s worse than the losing is there is no buzz with the teams, nothing to really get excited about nothing to make you feel compelled to watch. All the good teams or the good games so far this season in Football have nothing to do with the two New York teams. Basketball is too early to get worked up about.Although the Knicks beating Lebron and Cleveland created buzz for a moment. Giancarlo Stanton’s megadeal with the Marlins for 325 Million created more buzz than the local teams have all season in any sport.
I’m hopeful that eventuall the Knicks will catch fire and play well. I need one of my teams to make a good showing please. Otherwise the winter will be longer and more boring with more losing. Give us New York fans reasons to watch New York teams … win!
