For those of you who believe you are a Cavalier fan then you are in for a real treat. Before Lebron became a Cavalier for the first time, the Cavs had been in existence for some time in the NBA but they never received much in the way of positive attention until the late 80’s and early 90’s.
This week’s Smallthoughts: Old school Tuesday will focus on the Cleveland Cavaliers before LeBron James. in particular the late 80’s early 90’s Cavs, so with that in mind we start off with the very athletic forward …Larry Nance. Nance was a first round draft pick by the Phoenix Suns in 1981. He averaged over 16 points and 8 rebounds per game for all eleven seasons as a starter. His best scoring average year was in the 1986–1987 NBA season, where he averaged 22.5 points per game. Always among the highest in field goal percentage, Nance was an excellent mid-range shooter as well as a talented inside player. In 1988 Nance was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a deal that involved Kevin Johnson going from Cleveland to Phoenix and a draft pick that turned out to be Dan Majerle. Larry Nance was a 3-time NBA All-Star 1985, 1989, and 1993, and an NBA All-Defensive Team First Team member in 1989, and a Second Team Member in 1992 and 1993. He was also consistently one of the league’s better shot blockers, averaging 2.2 blocks per game during his career. Upon his retirement, he held the league record for most blocked shots by any player other than a center.
When you check his video highlights among his blocks was one against Michael Jordan …oh yes Nance could get that high.
Smallthoughts: Old School Tuesday …salutes one of the better all round players in the 80’s and 90’s…Larry Nance.

Phoenix made out pretty well on that trade too. K.J. and Majerle!!
yes they did
Cleveland was a better team than most would think. ThoseCav teams would have given the Lebron teams a run for their money and would have beaten the LeBron led Cavs
