The New York Jets finally settled on a General Manager and then a head coach. They hired Mike Maccagnan as their new General Manager and Todd Bowles as their new head coach. It took Woody Johnson two weeks of interviews but this time it looks like he put the right people in the right place the right way. He turned every stone left nothing unturn and listened to the consultants he hired as part of the process. He learned from his mistake of making the General Manager take the previous coach (Ryan/ Idzik). He hired the GM first then had the GM be part of the process to hire the head coach. Some will find fault no matter what Woody did in this case. But from here he learned from his mistakes and made the right calls at the right time for the right reasons. The Falcons were very interested in Bowles, the Jets liked Quinn but Quinn didn’t impress them as much as Bowles and the Jets knew they had competition for Bowles, and according to one published report Quinn wants the falcons head coaching vacancy. In the coaching version of musical chairs when all the good coaches are good then you are stuck with what’s left. At least right now Woody got to pick from who he wanted. Now let’s be real none of this guarantees success, but at least the Jets can’t be any worse than they were this past season and it appears that for a change they made the smart move for the right coach and general manager. Only time will show the results in these hires.
