The report came out on DeFlate Gate and it didn’t do Tom Brady any favors that’s for sure. It doesn’t spell the end of the Patriots dynasty in the AFC East, only the Jets Bills or Dolphins can do that. But it does put the image of the Patriots squarely out there that they are cheaters and will stop at nothing to win, even if it means deflating footballs. This also puts Tom Brady squarely in the eye of the storm as the one who knew about deflating the footballs and who made sure it was to his liking or else!!! His lack of cooperation with the NFL during this investigation can’t help his image and only furthers the belief that he himself isn’t above cheating . Little has been mentioned about Bill Belechick but be sure that this deflate gate didn’t escape his notice. It would be hard to imagine that something like this would have been done without his knowing or knowledge. This also exposed the fall guy or fall guys themselves Jim McNally the officials’ locker room assistant, and John Jastremski, an equipment assistant for the Patriots. They are the ones who were the actual culprits here, with at least Tom Brady’s knowledge.
There were texts exchanged between Mc Nally and Jastremski which puts Brady squarely in the middle of the whole thing and texts between Brady and Jastremski.
WHAT BRADY SAID TO THEM:
The texts suggest Brady mentioned to Jastremski that McNally must have ”a lot of stress” trying to get the footballs ”done.”
McNally: ”Tom sucks…im going to make that next ball a f—in balloon.” (Oct. 17, 2014)
Jastremski: ”Talked to him last night. He actually brought you up and said you must have a lot of stress trying to get them done…” (Oct. 17, 2014)
The two shared thoughts and jokes on how to overinflate the balls, and they had some choice words for Brady. They also said Brady was correct when he had complained that some of the footballs from the Oct. 16 game against the Jets were overinflated: Some had measured nearly 16 pounds per square inch, well above the 12.5-13.5 range the NFL requires.
McNally: ”Make sure you blow up the ball to look like a rugby ball so tom can get used to it before Sunday” (Oct. 21, 2014)
McNally: ”16 is nothing… wait till next Sunday” (Oct. 17, 2014)
McNally: ”F— tom….make sure the pump is attached to the needle…..f—in watermelons coming” (Oct. 23, 2014)
The report describes exchanges that indicate the two Patriots employees wanted sneakers and signed footballs in exchange for tampering with the balls for Brady.
McNally: ”Better be surrounded by cash and newkicks….or its a rugby Sunday” (Oct. 24, 2014)
Jastremski: ”Maybe u will have some nice size 11s in ur locker”
McNally: ”Remember to put a couple sweet pig skins ready for tom to sign” (Jan. 7, 2015)
Jastremski: ”U got it kid…big autograph day for you”
McNally: ”Nice throw some kicks in and make it real special”
McNally: ”The only thing deflating sun..is his passing rating” (Oct. 23, 2014).
WERE THEY READY TO RAT?
One text message from McNally referring to himself as the ”deflator” suggests that he might contact the media.
”jimmy needs some kicks….lets make a deal…..come on help the deflator” (May 9, 2014)
”Chill buddy im just f—in with you ….im not going to espn……..yet.”
AFTER THE INVESTIGATION:
After the complaints about deflated footballs became public, Brady called Jastremski for the first time in more than six months. They had multiple conversations for a total of nearly an hour, then met in the quarterback room – the first time Jastremski had ever been invited there in his 20-year career. Brady then began texting Jastremski.
BRADY: ”You good Jonny boy?”
”You doing good?”
JASTREMSKI: ”Still nervous; so far so good though”
”FYI…Dave (Patriots head equipment manager Dave Schoenfeld) will be picking your brain later about it. He’s not accusing me, or anyone…trying to get to bottom of it. He knows it’s unrealistic you did it yourself…”
This isn’t the first time the Patriots have been cited for cheating, don’t forget Spygate in which the Jets charged them with In 2007, the NFL levied an enormous fine against the Patriots and Bill Belichick for taping the New York Jets during a September game. The NFL ordered New England to turn over all tapes it had made of opposing teams, and then Goodell ordered the tapes destroyed.
Then just this past season in the playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens… Deception gate: A week before deflate-gate, there was some controversy swirling around the Patriots’ playoff win over the Baltimore Ravens in a tightly contested 35-31 game. Ravens coach John Harbaugh accused the Pats of a “substitution trick” that was “clearly deception.”
The Patriots dug into their bag of tricks on their second drive of the third quarter, lining up just four offensive linemen and declaring a normally eligible receiver as ineligible to keep Baltimore off balance. Ravens players were confused about which Patriots to match up with in coverage.
Harbaugh said it was a tactic that “nobody has ever seen before.”
Again all this did was further the belief that the Patriots are cheaters. Will the NFL come down hard on the Pats and in particular Tom Brady? It has been floated that the league may suspend Brady …which I would believe it when it happens, I can’t imagine Goodell suspending the league’s golden boy if they did it will be a short suspension, a fine will be more likely. The NFL gives players who get caught doing steroids 4 game suspension routinely so I can’t imagine them giving Brady a suspension for something like deflating footballs. But let’s be clear it will tarnish the image of the we’re better than , we’re smarter than everybody image of the Patriots.
Now in order for this to mean anything to put an end to the patriots dynasty as an elite team in the NFL and in the AFC and AFC east , let’s see the Jets, Dolphins and Bills do something about it on Sundays.
