Smallthoughts: Rants and Raves

Rants: Chicago Bulls …for firing Tom Thibodeau. The Bulls are tossing up alot of Bull about Thibodeau’s dismissal. He has continued to win despite not having Derrick Rose( who is a former league MVP) for a full season then part of this season. Let’s see someone else try winning without their best player. Ask the Knicks about winning with out Carmelo Anthony. This statement sounds alot like a human resources statement…

“While the head of each department of the organization must be free to make final decisions regarding his department, there must be free and open interdepartmental discussion and consideration of everyone’s ideas and opinions. These internal discussions must not be considered an invasion of turf, and must remain private. Teams that consistently perform at the highest levels are able to come together and be unified across the organization – staff, players, coaches, management and ownership. When everyone is on the same page, trust develops and teams can grow and succeed together. Unfortunately, there has been a departure from this culture. To ensure that the Chicago Bulls can continue to grow and succeed, we have decided that a change in the head coaching position is required.”

Thibodeau will now become one of the most coveted head coaches in the NBA. Though his tendency to overwork players may scare some teams, his Bulls teams were consistently one of the best defensive units in the NBA. He also has a reputation for getting the most out of a team, even with Chicago’s slew of injuries in recent seasons. So it will be interesting where he lands and where ever he goes the team he goes to will be upgrading tremendously.

Rants: Miami Marlins … fired Mike Redmond and put the General Manager Dan Jennings in the Manager’s office, how’s that working out so far?Not so good.Through 10 games, the Marlins are just 2-8 under Jennings and have fallen from 6.0 games back in the National League East to 10.5 games back through Wednesday’s games. This is going to get ugly quick.

Rants: Ray Mc Donald…Can he stay out of trouble? Apparently not ….Chicago Bears defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested by San Jose police on charges of misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment, according to a report from Damian Trujillo of NBC Bay Area. The Santa Clara Police Department issued a statement that McDonald was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly “physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby.” He was arrested for drunk driving back in 2010.In December, McDonald was released by the San Francisco 49ers shortly after he was named as a suspect in a sexual assault investigation. An investigation by the NFL found that McDonald did not violate the league’s personal conduct policy and he was not subject to the mandatory six-game suspension for domestic violence violations.

Now after being embarrassed by Mc Donald’s off the field issues the Bears have cut ties with the defensive player. Good for them, but at what point does the player learn that he isn’t handling his issues the right way?

Raves:Minnesota Twins...did anyone see the Twins as division leaders heading into June? Nope … Royals,White Sox and the Tigers figured to be the class of the division but the Twins behind new manager Paul Molitor.are tied for the division lead, nice job!

Raves: St Louis Cardinals…31-16 best record in Baseball. Already with a 5.5 game lead. No fan fare, no big budget all they do is win win win.

Raves:Steve Kerr...obviously he knows what he is doing. He turned down the Knicks offer and at the time under some shaddy circumstances but it worked out for the best. Now he is in the NBA finals.
