Rants: DeAndre Jordan…When is a deal not a deal? When it isn’t a signed deal. Apparently Jordan got cold feet on his deal with the Dallas Mavericks and then the Clippers swooped in and made sure Dallas Owner Mark Cuban couldn’t contact Jordan…strange to say the least. Can’t wait to see these two teams play each other during the season.
Rants: Jason Pierre Paul…Can anyone explain why was he playing with fire works in the first place knowing he earns a living with his hands?
Rants: Luke Ridnour…keep your bags packed …you’re on the move again …The Raptors are now the fifth team to move on from Ridnour in the last 16 days, a remarkable whirlwind of ostensibly theoretical activity that saw the 34-year-old veteran point guard traded three times in 24 hours and four times in a six-day span.He moved from the Orlando Magic to the Memphis Grizzlies to the Charlotte Hornets to the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Raptors, each of whom coveted him not for his productivity on the court (four points, two assists, 1.4 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game for Orlando last season) or his leadership in the locker room, but rather because his $2.75 million contract for the 2015-16 season is totally unguaranteed, and doesn’t become guaranteed until July 11. That means any team that acquires him can use him as a chip to match up salaries with a prospective trade partner or waive him and instantly create $2.75 million in cap space. It’s a no- or low-cost path to free cash, some additional deal-making flexibility and/or an open roster spot to add a new piece or sign a draft pick. Crazy.
Raves: David West …how bad does he want to win? He took only…1 Million dollars to play for the San Antonio Spurs, Last season West earned 11 million. It just goes to show it comes to a point where you have to decide do you want to win or get paid, West wants to win.
Raves:Los Angeles Lakers … Even thought they got shut out in free agency, they did make a smart trade for Center Roy Hibbert. Rim protector and rebounder, someone that will now give opposing teams something to think about and not just converge on Kobe Bryant all the time.
Raves: New York Mets …I’m going to give the fellas from Flushing some credit they went out on a west coast swing (6 games) with a bad to awful offense and had to play the Dodgers and the Giants. The way things were going they would be hard pressed to win one game. Yet the Mets finished with a 4-2 record. The offense is still awful but the pitching has been lights out..
