Smallthoughts: Rants and Raves

Rants:.. Ikemefuna Enemkpali sucker punching a teammate is never a good idea, and despite what some have said sucker punching someone isn’t about leadership, it is an act of cowardliness. Regardless of what Geno said about paying back the money there were better ways to handle this than punching him in the face, whether he deserved it or not. All this over 600 Dollars? Please.

Rants: Geno Smith … You are the quarterback of the team, what are you doing arguing over 600 dollars, money that is more like tipping at a club for the money that you make. Couldn’t you defuse the situation rather than point and provoke Enemkpali to that level?

Rants: Rex Ryan …he just can’t help himself, picking up Enemkpali when the Jets cut him was Rex taking a dig at the Jets. Is Ikemefuna Enemkpali really going to help the Bills this season? Come on, it was debatable if he was going to make the Jets in the first place. Some believe Rex is good about giving players second chances, the problem is with Rex it fosters an out of control team all at the wrong time…see 6 seasons with the Jets under Rex.

Raves:Hisashi Iwakuma …a real feel good story with his no hitter against the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week. He was the second Japanese pitcher to throw a no hitter in Major League Baseball. Hideo Nomo was the first with 2 no hitters in his major league career.

Raves: New York Mets…the run away train in Flushing, Queens is none other than the New York Mets. Since the trade for  Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson which is when the team really started turning things around, things have been well amazing for the Mets. All of a sudden they score runs like it’s nothing down 2 runs …no problem score 3, tie game no problem break the tie break open the game and steam roll to a win. Adding Cespedes to the mix has made the lineup deeper and gave it much needed swagger. The 4 game sweep of the Rockies comes at a good time next up is the Pirates. The Mets by the way are 4.5 games up on the Washington Nationals.

Raves:Charles Barkley… noted Knick hater actually surprised many he believes Phil Jackson made some good moves this summer…“I actually disagree with all the critics [against] the Knicks,’’ Barkley said. “I think the Knicks should be on national television this year. They actually got NBA players.’’“There were times we showed the Knicks, they didn’t have any NBA players — and I’m not trying to badmouth the Knicks,’’ Barkley said. “They had players who should be playing in the D-League or overseas. That’s just a fact. They didn’t have legitimate NBA players.’’

“Robin Lopez is an NBA player, Afflalo is an NBA player, [draft pick] Jerian Grant is an NBA player,’’ Barkley said. “That’s three NBA players they didn’t have last year. And they’re going to get Carmelo back. Porzingis is going to be a good player, maybe not right now.”

Barkley, then added: “I give Phil credit. He didn’t get any high-profile free agents, but Lopez is a heck of a player. I said the same thing about Grant, and Afflalo has been a solid player for six, seven years. I like what the Knicks did considering they didn’t get any big-time free agents.’’

I don’t about you Knick fans but I am so used to Charles hating the Knicks that for him to say something nice …well I’m not sure how to take it.But since he said something nice …he gets to be on the raves list this week.
