Rants: Brian Cashman …there is a Sports Illustrated article on Cashman that says during his contract talks with Derek Jeter he basically said when asked by Jeter who he would prefer at shortstop his answer was …Troy Tulowitzki. “Sometimes honesty hurts. But if you’re paid to do a job, do the job,” Cashman said in the story. “You have to honor the job description; if not, you’re a fraud or stealing money. You can’t fake your way doing this.” Ok maybe honesty hurts but I wonder if he would feel differently if he asked Jeter if there was another General Manager he’d rather work for and Jeter reply yes…Dave Dombrowski. I’m not a Yankee fan but that highlights to me how General managers look at players …as nothing more than tradable assets regardless of who they are and their status on the team and with the fans…Can you imagine if Cashman really let Jeter walk and Jeter finished his career on a team not named the New York Yankees?
Rants: DeFlate Gate …someone give in already please this is dragging on far too long. Honestly why would Brady say he would take a suspension if he according to him didn’t do anything wrong? Am I the only one that sees that? The judge wants the NFL and Tom Brady to reach a settlement and Brady wants to make sure he doesn’t get blamed for deflating the footballs but only for not cooperating with the investigation, he wasn’t cooperating because he knew he was guilty of deflating the footballs whether directly or indirectly since he knew about it.
Rants:Oday Aboushi …I’m not sure if it’s me or not but the players know they are going to be tested for drugs right? Not to mention you know if you are caught with drugs in your car it’s trouble for you, so …why do it? Is it really worth the trouble that follows, both legal and in this case a 1 game suspension? In case you missed it…”During the stop, police recovered a very small amount of marijuana from his vehicle,” the statement said. ”Oday accepted responsibility for the traffic infraction and all other charges were dismissed.”
”I apologize for my actions and understand the repercussions,” Aboushi said in a statement issued by the team. ”This is something I’ve learned from and I’m focused on moving forward.”
Raves: Shaquille O’Neal …the Big Aristotle gave his opinion on who was better one on one. Fans argue over whether Michael Jordan or LeBron James is the best in basketball’s history. Recently, both MJ and LBJ have gone on record saying they would beat the other in a game of one-on-one. So Shaq gave his take on who is better
“It would be an interesting game. Young LeBron was more like (Lakers Hall of Famer) Magic Johnson. He was sort of like Magic with Jordan’s abilities. He liked to pass, and he liked to get it up.
But Mike was Mike. He was just special, like no one else. He always did things no one else could do, and things you couldn’t compare to anyone else. So he was special, and he’d win.
“I’ve seen young Mike and young LeBron and I must say Dr. J is still my favorite player,” Shaq said. “A lot of people today don’t even mention his name but to me I still think he was the best. But these are questions that we’ll never know the answer to.”
Raves: Boston RedSox …for hiring Dave Dombrowski…the right move at the right time. He has a proven track record and he has worked for RedSox Owner John Henry so…let him do his thing and the RedSox will be contenders in the not so distant future.
Raves:Matt Flynn…life is good for the back up QB …I have never seen one player get more mileage out of one game that set up the rest of his career like Flynn. He opened eyes across the league by throwing for 480 yards and six touchdowns in the final game of the 2011 season, setting Packers records in both categories. The following spring he signed a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks, but he was beaten out for the starting job in training camp by an unheralded rookie named Russell Wilson.Flynn attempted only nine passes with the Seahawks before being traded to Oakland. From there, he bounced back to Green Bay and Buffalo before the Patriots took their brief turn with him this summer. Now he is a backup QB for the New York Jets. Flynn has reportedly earned nearly 17 million dollars in his career off that one game…
