Yankees get Aroldis Chapman

Start here

Aroldis Chapman, Aroldis Chapman girlfriend

The Dodgers traded for Chapman and once the story broke that he allegedly was involved in a domestic dispute the Dodgers wanted no parts of Aroldis Chapman. The Yankees on the other hand had no such concerns, why because they traded 4 minor leagues to get him knowing there could be a suspension forth coming. Which just goes to prove talent trumps legal issues any day of the week. If you throw as hard as Chapman does someone will find a place for you on their team even if you allegedly choked your girlfriend.

From a baseball stand point, it’s hard to argue the Yankees back end of the bullpen is possibly the best going into 2016 with Andrew Miller, Dellin Betances and Chapman. That is a daunting task for anyone to face in the late innings against the Yankees. The Royals had such a bullpen and they just played in two straight World Series winning the 2015 world series, so maybe there is something to this and the Yankees want in on this. The Yankees have historically stacked their bullpen before …in the 70’s Sparky Lyle was the closer until Goose Gossage came then they where the one two punch. The Yankees in the 90’s had a bullpen of Jeff Nelson Mariano Rivera and John Wettland before he departed for Texas. Cashman knows from his history with the Yankees it never hurts to have a deep bullpen and this is as deep as it gets with flamethrowers. None as high on the radar gun as Chapman. 100mph plus ouch!

Off the field, well the legal system will run it’s course and baseball will take it’s cue from that as to what kind of suspension he will get. Like I said on paper on the field this was a no brainer move for the Yankees, off the field I wonder if there is more to the story than just firing shots in the garage more than choking someone , but it was enough to chase the Dodgers away, the Yankees should have used that as a word of caution that they could be biting more than they could chew. After all the backlash of negativity with Ray Rice and Greg Hardy , Matt Barnes among others you would think teams would stay clear of players like that…yet as stated before …talent always trumps legal issues (bad behavior) any day of the week.
