Smallthoughts: Rants and Raves

Rants : Johnny Manziel…the self destructive path continues despite his employer the Cleveland Browns trying to give him more chances to turn his career and his life around. But this latest incident of which he is being investigated for beating his girlfriend or ex girlfriend depending on the account has Cleveland going on record as stating that they will be parting ways with Johnny Manziel. Here is something even more sobering NFL bust Ryan Leaf even said of Manziel’s substance abuse problems… It’s like looking in a mirror. Leaf never got his career on track…the same looks likely for Manziel.

Rants: Critics of Cam Newton’s dance after making plays…What makes him any different than anybody else doing a dance? Victor Cruz did a dance in the end zone after a touch down, Defensive players celebrate wildly after a sack (remember when Mark Gasteneau did it in the 80’s how upset even got …now…too common place). Even Aaron Rodgers does a belt move when his team gets a first down so come on lay off  can already. Are the celebrations throughout the league over the top? Yes of course they are, but so is the criticism of Cam Newton when he does it.

Rants:Kaepernick to Jets…was the hot rumor earlier this week and I am not sure if it is wishful thinking on the part of a beat writer or if this has real teeth but, I don’t think this is going to happen for two reasons … Ryan Fritzpatrick and the Jets are happy with each other  Bowles has gone on record as saying that he wants Fritzpatrick back with the Jets next season and the Jets seem interested in bringing him back and the other reason is Kaepernick for his talent is headcase needing help to find his game again. New York already has a head case currently on its roster right now…Geno Smith. Getting Kaepernick comes with risk. If the Jets were to pursue Kaepernick then they would not re sign Fritzpatrick and vice versa if they pursue Fritzpatrick they are not going to wait and then hope the 49ers cut Kaepernick and then sign him too, it would be a circus all over again, like in the Rex Ryan- Mike Tannebaum days of Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.

Raves: UConn Huskies Women…destroyed SMU 90-37…was that necessary? …Yeah! The Huskies don’t just beat you, they dismantle you. That’s 55 in row in case anyone was counting.

Raves: Yoenis Cespedes…the recently re-signed Met made it clear at the team press conference that he wanted to stay a Met and signed for 3 years…so does this mean he won’t opt out after year one of the new deal? Stay tuned.

Raves:Steph Curry …How could we leave him off the raves list this week with his head turning 51 point performance against the Washington Wizards 21 points in the first quarter alone, some teams have trouble scoring that many in a quarter and here Curry did it by himself. Curry hit 11 3 pointers for the game…that’s just crazy! Just give Curry the MVP award right now.
