Smallthoughts: Rave of the Week …New York Giants

Start here

Last season at this time, the Giants were a train wreck. They had not made the playoffs …again and Coughlin was forced to retire, the defense had more leaks than the Titanic and Odell Beckham Jr. was completely out of control losing his composure against the Carolina Panthers and Josh Norman.

Fast forward one year later , the Giants have a new head coach in Ben McAdoo, the Giants defense is stout and with each passing week they have become more dominate, Odell Beckham Jr. still is out of control , but the most important thing is …the Giants are in the playoffs and their first round opponent is the Green Bay Packers.   The red hot winners of 6 straight Green Bay Packers. Jerry Recce who this time last year I felt should have been booted with Coughlin, rebounded nicely spending wisely on Damon (Snacks ) Harrison, and Olivier Vernon drafted well with Eli Apple and got improved play throughout the season by Landon Collins who looks like a star in the making.

Will the Giants beat the Packers on Sunday? I think so. Will it be easy ? Nope! But the Giant defense is peaking at the right time and is playing well in big moments and their secondary  has developed nicely as a shutdown secondary especially late in games.

Again this time last year no one saw this coming. Funny how quickly things can change. Go Big Blue!

  1. Ben McAdoo has been a revelation as a head coach for the New York Giants , but this weekend’s game against the Green Bay Packers will be a true test of wills for both teams . Green Bay enters the contents contest on real hot streak , having won five consecutive games , whereas, the Giants went 3-2 over their final five regular season games .

  2. Hey Jerry, don’t forget one of the top WR rookies in the NFL Sterling Shepard, who took over the slot position from Victor Cruz! He was, along with Eli Apple, another outstanding draft selection by Reece.
The Giants have beaten the Packers AT Green Bay as a wild card before so if Collins & company can control Jordy Nelson, in particular, & keep turnovers & penalties to a minimum, they have an excellent shot on Sunday! #BigBlue

  3. Cayman Thorn says:

I agree as per Reece. He was able to cull the FA market and turn it into noticeable improvement, NOT an easy thing to do.
