To the disgust of Yankee fans Jose Altuve is the American League MVP. Yankee fans point Aaron Judge final numbers 52 homeruns 114 RBIS with a 284 batting average. While it is eye popping don’t forget Judge went through a 8 week  stretch where he looked lost at the plate striking out in 37 straight games. In that same stretch Altuve stayed consist. Altuve posted a .968 OPS in the first half and a .944 OPS in the second half.

Altuve struck less than Judge he had the 13 lowest strike out rate while Judge had the 4th highest.

It helped that the Astros ran a away with the American league west with a 101-61 record and going all the way to the world series.

In all it came down to perception and in the view of the voters…Altuve 5’6  stood taller than the 6’7 Yankee rookie of the year Aaron Judge. Congratulations to Jose Altuve!
