Smallthoughts: Rant of the Week… Miami Marlins

The more things change the more things stay the same. Remember back in the day when the Marlins would get a new owner and the first thing they did was break up the team trade away  high priced stars to other teams …hmmmm so what is different now? Different owner? same old Marlins. the new owner group led by former Yankee great Derek Jeter this week along has traded away two of it’s biggest stars in Giancarlo Stanton to the New York Yankees and Marcell Ozuna to the St Louis Cardinals. The case can certainly be made that both trades did not get the Marlins fair market returns …basically the Yankees gave up nothing to get Stanton and the Cardinals gave up prospects which remains to be see how they develop. Yet the rich get richer , the Marlins continue to be the farm system for Major League Baseball and the Commissioner is ok with it. Think back to the time when Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn vetoed trades by the Oakland A’s  Vida Blue to the Yankees and Joe Rudi to the Boston RedSox for not being in the best interest of Baseball. So where is the best interest of Baseball now?

I enjoy talking sports, and on here I get to write about it as well. I have my thoughts hence Small thoughts, we will not always agree, but respectfully speak about what we feel.
