Rants– 22-year-old McKinzie Sewell competing in high school basketball at Ridgeway High — Memphis Tenn. Made fools of everyone. Got his wife to pose as his mother and came up with fake transcripts so he could play high school ball. Really? Seriously? College ball is too good for you? the sickest part of it is that he cost the kids the real kids a shot at the finals and the team was no longer eligible to continue playing in the tournment.
Rants- Boston Red Sox prospect Drake Britton
A speeding, intoxicated Britton took Florida authorities on a early-morning chase and was eventually arrested for DUI and reckless driving. He was lucky that he didn’t hurt anyone and that is being kind. What a stupid selfish and mindless act.
Rants-Dwight Howard for yet again saying something stupid such as the following: “team in Orlando was a team full of people that nobody wanted.” Needless to say his ex mates didn’t take too kindly to that statement. Rashard Lewis -in Lewis’ words, “he should be focused on playing for the Lakers and making the playoffs.”
Howard should by now be smarter about answering questions like that. Should be…but isn’t.
Raves-Chicago BlackHawks. I know Hockey doesn’t get much love here on Smallthoughtsinasportsworld but it’s time to show some love for the Chicago BlackHawks of the NHL. The Blackhawks have opened this season with 24 straight games with at least a point, itself a record for the most successful start in NHL history. If you count last season then the streak is 30 games and they are just 5 games shy of matching the all time record of 35 games set by the Philadelphia Flyers(1979-80)so in either case congratulationsfor giving Hockey fans and the sport of Hockey something positive to root for.
Raves-LeBron James and the Miami Heat 16 games now and counting the streak continues. They still have a long way toward catching the Lakers (1971-72) streak of 33 striaght. The Heat have put distance between themselves and the rest of the East as Top team. LeBron is playing on a level that is what the Heat was hoping for when he first arrived in South Beach. Now it looks like the move, the decision and taking his talents to South Beach is finally paying off.
Raves-Mariano Rivera while finally announcing that he is retiring after the 2013 season he has set the bar for relief pitching that will be hard to surpass. Consider that for a pitcher to have one pitch and only one pitch, everyone in the park knows the pitch, knows it’s coming and the batter still can’t hit it, says alot about Rivera …the stuff legends are made of. Enjoy your retirement Mo.
