Smallthoughts:Rants and Raves

Rants:Jeff Orr …Orr baited Marcus Smart from the moment Smart came crashing into the stands after making a defensive play. Orr saw an opportunity to get under his skin all in the guise to give the Texas Tech Raiders an advantage. While Smart should not have put his hands on Orr, it is no doubt that Orr made should to say something to make that happen. He too delight in it especially when you see the smile on his face after the shove by Smart. It’s not the first time Orr has done this type of thing before, but this should be the last time. He paid his ticket to watch the game not to be a player in it.

Rants:Marcus Smart…I know why am I ranting on Smart after I ripped Orr…simple. Smart seemed to have forgot one of the rules when growing up which was sticks and stones may break your bones but word will never hurt me. The shove is what got him in trouble. If this happens now at the college level what could Smart expect at the Pro level? More of the same and with worse consequences.

Rants:Michael Sam…I hope he isn’t expecting players in the NFL to be as accepting of his being gay as his teammates were in college. There are those who will pay lip service to welcoming Sam to the NFL with open arms…but there will be others not so accepting. Not sure as to why he opted to announce it so soon before the NFL draft but we will see how this plays out and how much he will be able to overcome what comes his way.

Raves: Derek Jeter… the last of the core 4 is finally going to retire after the 2014 season. He has been the Yankees starting shortstop since 1996 and while you can make the case that other shortstops have hit more homerruns, hit for more power, no one has been more important at the position than Jeter has been for the Yankees and he is leaving on his terms, which is all you can ask when you are Derek Jeter.

Raves: John Elway… for those who thought that the Broncos from top to bottom should be gutted after getting pounded in the Super Bowl, the good news Elway is coming back to finish the job of building the Broncos. And he has the GM Title now to fix it.

Raves:Kevin Durant …If the season ended today Durant is my choice for MVP. Easy… He further gave more proof as the Thunder came from behind to be the Los Angeles Lakers in which Durant score 19 points in the 4th quarter to rally his team from 15 points down for the win…he finshed with 43 points total for the game.
