Smallthoughts: Rants and Raves

Rants: Roger Goodell and the NFL… To say this have been the worst week for the NFL is an understatement. This has been a embarrassment and the NFL is out of control. Every story now coming out of the NFL has something to do domestic violence either against a child or a woman. We could site all the examples of this for this week and would fill 6 rants but you get the point. This is pile on time for the NFL and the critics are calling for Roger Goodell’s head, the question is will he survive?

Rants: Charles Barkley and CBS…since when did Charles Barkley become this voice of reason for this generation? CBS which had Charles Barkley on it’s NFL show, should have known better. Barkley is a hall of fame Basketball player…what was he doing on a NFL pre game talk show giving advice about the current cases? By the way…Charles it isn’t a southern thing when it comes to old school discipline. This was a way of life everywhere. This is a different day and different time where what happened in the past doesn’t fly today.

Rants: Jamies Winston…winning the Heisman Trophy doesn’t give the player to act and say however they want. His lewd comments about women just adds to the list of discretions that has dogged him during his time at Florida State. He is going to have to grow up at some point. Yet for acting immature on this recent discretion he gets 1/2 a game? Seriously?

Raves: Baltimore Orioles …for winning their first division title since 1997. Buck Showater restored pride in the franchise which had been a joke for a good part of Peter Angelos time as owner. Good job Buck.

Raves: Los Angeles Angels…  After two bad seasons the Halos have rebounded nicely and now have won their first division title since 2009. Can the Angels seal the deal in the post season?

Raves: Adam Wainwright…Met fans cringe just at the mention of his name but there is no doubt that the Cardinals righthander is one of the top pitchers in the National League. What looked like a runaway CY Young for Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw might be a close race for top pitching prize now that Wainwright has won his 19th game this season. here is  Wainwright’s stats. Adam Wainwright

19-9 ERA2.45 K171 BB49

Clayton Kershaw stats

W-L19-3 ERA1.70 K219 BB28

Talk about pitching excellence.
